Hurry- clean up, the clutter patrol is coming

My brother played a good trick on me.

He was watching Oprah, an episode where they were helping people with clutter problems. And he told me that he was calling Oprah to get me on the show. And I believed him! He was using the headphones that he has for his telephone and it seemed quite believable. Later I walked by and he said he was still trying to get through. I told him he needed help too. He said, maybe they’ll do a two-fer.

I wasn’t really that thrilled about this idea! I have always thought I wouldn’t want to have anyone tell me I would have to throw this or that thing away. All kinds of things of thoughts were going through my head. I was wondering what kind of stuff the Oprah show would do for you. If I really started to daydream, I could think of all kinds of things that I would like. I would like some shelves in several rooms of the house. I would like to tear down my brother’s storage building and put in a quilt workshop, with heating and air-conditioning, and… The house could really use some home improvement help, I need new carpeting, one room just has the padding that goes under the carpeting. Some of the carpeting is okay, but hey while, I’m dreaming…

Then a few hours later he told me that he had finally gotten through and they were supposed to be calling him back. The next day I asked them if they had called him back.

I went home and started cleaning up my house. I tackled some of the paper mess. That made a big improvement. It wouldn’t make as good a “before” shot. I wondered if they ever deliberately make a mess for the before shots.

AND...

It wasn’t until a few days later that he confessed that he had been pulling my leg. He had the headphones on waiting for his girlfriend to call. And then he got a phone call from someone else. Somehow it just all fell into to place.
