I have been writing poems recently. I was inspired by several things.
1. I heard someone say recently that musicians can make songs out of other people's poetry. I liked that idea.
2. I have been going through my stacks of unread books and picked up one on writing. The author writes poetry as well as writing books about writing. I have been doing some of her suggested writing exercises. She says just write without worrying about whether you are spelling right and puncutation and stopping to think too much. After doing that I later went back to a certain paragraph and said to myself this sounds like a poem. It is called Carrots. Maybe I'll post it later.
3. I have been getting into the music of a musician new to me. Maybe this should be point #2.
I was doing some driving in Alabama on Saturday and picked up a Christian radio station that I wouldn't be able to get around home. A young man was doing the hosting (hereafter called "host") for a show featuring interviews with musicians. I don't remember the name of the musician (music guy) that the host was interviewing. It was definitely am amusing bit they did.
Host said he had taken a page from his journal in the 6th grade, and he wanted music guy to make a song about what he wrote in there. So music guy was singing "The day I wore my sister's blouse to school" (my title) (ha!ha!). Music guy actually did do a fairly decent job of making a song out of the thing. But they were having a good laugh about it. Music guy said that he didn't want to know anything else about what was in the journal!
I hope my poetry isn't that ridiculous! Or my blog. Maybe it is some times!
